Acupuncture Treatments & Pricing
Why an Initial Consultation Is Essential
Before beginning any acupuncture treatment with Dr. Priscilla Kerr, a 30-minute Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultation is required. This consultation is the cornerstone of your care and allows us to:
-
Review your complete health history
-
Understand your current symptoms and concerns
-
Identify imbalances in your body’s energy (qi)
-
Develop a personalized, holistic treatment plan
In TCM, the body is viewed as an interconnected system. By exploring your lifestyle, sleep, digestion, emotional state, and more, we can identify and treat the root causes of your condition—not just the symptoms. The more information you share, the more precise and effective your treatment will be.

What to Expect at Your Consultation
Dr. Kerr takes the time to thoroughly understand your unique health profile. She draws on her background as a medical doctor (MD) from Brazil, along with her TCM and acupuncture expertise, to create a custom treatment strategy tailored specifically to you. After your session, she continues working behind the scenes—reviewing your case and preparing personalized recommendations based on your TCM diagnosis.
What to Expect During Your Acupuncture Session
Your acupuncture session at Priscilla Kerr Wellness is designed to be calm, personalized, and restorative. From start to finish, your comfort and well-being are our priority.
Personalized Assessment
Each session begins with a brief check-in to understand how you’re feeling, review progress, and adjust your treatment plan as needed. Acupuncture treatments are always tailored to your individual needs.
Gentle Needle Placement
Ultra-fine, hair-thin needles are placed precisely at selected points on the body. Most patients feel little to no discomfort—often just a brief sensation of warmth, heaviness, or mild tingling that quickly settles.
Rest & Relaxation
Once the needles are in place, you’ll rest comfortably for 15– 20 minutes. Many patients find this time deeply relaxing and use it as a moment to reset and unwind.
Aftercare & How You May Feel
After treatment, patients commonly report feeling:
-
Deeply relaxed or calm
-
More balanced or clear-headed
-
Re-energized or lighter in the body
Mild soreness or fatigue may occasionally occur and usually resolves within 24 hours. Dr. Kerr will offer simple aftercare guidance to support the benefits of your treatment.
Benefits of Acupuncture
Regular acupuncture treatments may help:
-
Reduce pain and muscle tension
-
Support stress regulation and emotional balance
-
Improve circulation and nervous system function
-
Enhance sleep quality and energy levels
-
Support healing, recovery, and overall well-being
Every response is individual, and results often build over a series of treatments.

Dr. Priscilla Kerr, Dr. TCM, R.Ac
Dr. Priscilla Kerr is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Registered Acupuncturist with extensive clinical experience in fertility care, women’s health, rehabilitation, and pain management.
She is certified and clinically trained in fertility and reproductive health according to TCM, supporting patients through natural fertility journeys as well as assisted reproductive treatments such as IVF and IUI.
Dr. Kerr also specializes in rehabilitation and pain management, using acupuncture and integrative TCM strategies to reduce pain, restore function, and support recovery. Her approach is holistic, evidence-informed, and individualized, addressing root causes while supporting the body’s natural healing processes.
Advanced Rehabilitation & Myofascial Pain Training
Dr. Priscilla Kerr received specialized rehabilitation and orthopedic pain training as part of her medical residency at the University of São Paulo School of Medicine, within a hospital-based rehabilitation and orthopedics facility ( MD-2000) . During this period, she was trained in advanced myofascial pain assessment and treatment approaches used in multidisciplinary pain clinics.
Her training included the practical application of key components of the pain management model developed by Andrew Fischer, which integrates:
-
The Travell & Simons trigger point model, and
-
The radiculopathy-based neuromuscular model described by Chan Gunn
This approach emphasizes a holistic, function-based understanding of pain, recognizing myofascial trigger points as both a muscular and sensory nervous system dysfunction, rather than purely structural findings.
Adaptation to Acupuncture-Based Care in Canada
After immigrating to Canada, Dr. Kerr adapted this advanced myofascial pain methodology to align fully with her scope of practice as a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Registered Acupuncturist in Manitoba. She does not practice as a medical doctor in Canada and does not perform injections.
Instead, she applies the core therapeutic principles of this model using acupuncture needles only, which allows for:
-
Precise release of entire taut muscle bands rather than isolated points
-
Activation of the body’s natural pain-modulating mechanisms
-
Treatment of functional muscle chains and attachment sites
-
Reduced tissue trauma compared to injection-based techniques
-
Faster recovery times and lower risk of complications
This adapted approach maintains the clinical effectiveness of trigger point therapy while remaining safe, less-invasive, and fully compliant with Canadian regulations.
Clinical Philosophy
Dr. Kerr’s approach views needling as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy, not a standalone technique. Treatments are individualized and may be combined with:
-
Functional movement guidance
-
Postural and ergonomic education
-
Relaxation and nervous system regulation strategies
-
Integrative TCM pattern diagnosis
This method is particularly effective for chronic pain, sports injuries, postural strain, and rehabilitation-focused care, often with recovery from the procedure within 24 hours or less.

How Acupuncture Works
Acupuncture is a safe, evidence-informed therapy that uses ultra-fine, sterile, single-use needles placed at specific points on the body to support balance, healing, and overall well-being.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective
In TCM, health is viewed as the harmonious flow of qi (vital energy) through pathways called meridians. When this flow becomes blocked or imbalanced, discomfort or illness may arise. Acupuncture gently stimulates specific points to help restore balance and activate the body’s natural healing capacity.
From a Western medical perspective
Acupuncture points often correspond to areas where nerves, muscles, and connective tissue can be stimulated. This may help improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, support nervous system regulation, encourage the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals (such as endorphins), and reduce inflammation.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Yes. When provided by a trained and licensed professional using sterile, single-use needles, acupuncture is considered a very low-risk therapy. Mild soreness or small bruising may occasionally occur and usually resolves quickly.
If you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, or have specific medical concerns, please let us know prior to treatment so your care can be safely tailored to you.

Insurance & Direct Billing
At Priscilla Kerr Wellness, we are happy to offer direct billing for acupuncture treatments with select extended health insurance providers, when available.
To use direct billing, patients are asked to complete a Direct Billing Consent Form at the front desk prior to their first appointment.
Important Information About Direct Billing
-
Direct billing is a courtesy service, not a guarantee of coverage.
If a claim is declined or partially covered, the remaining balance is the patient’s responsibility at the time of service. -
Missed appointments or late cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice) are not eligible for insurance coverage and must be paid out-of-pocket.
-
All services provided—including consultations, assessments, and treatments—are non-refundable, regardless of insurance reimbursement.
-
Direct billing can only be submitted after your treatment has been completed, not before the appointment.
Using More Than One Insurance Provider
We understand that some patients may have more than one insurance plan available (for example, through a partner or spouse).
To ensure accuracy and efficiency:
-
We are only able to direct bill one insurance provider per visit.
-
Processing multiple insurance claims for the same appointment significantly increases complexity and time, and may lead to errors—especially in a busy, multi-practitioner clinic environment.
-
If you have secondary coverage, we will gladly provide a detailed receipt so you can submit the claim to your additional insurance provider independently.
For each visit, please let our staff know which insurance provider you would like us to use as your primary plan.
Thank you for your cooperation—this helps us avoid delays and ensures smooth service for all patients.
Direct Billing Hours
-
Direct billing is available during regular business hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
After-Hours Appointments
If your appointment takes place outside of regular business hours:
-
Direct billing may not be available at the time of your visit.
-
Full payment is required at the appointment.
-
Our daytime staff will be happy to assist the next business day with reviewing insurance details and submitting direct billing if applicable.
Packages & Prepaid Credit – Direct Billing Policy
We offer discounted rates for patients who purchase treatment packages or preload credit (typically 10%–20% savings).
Please note:
-
Discounted packages and prepaid credit are not eligible for direct billing.
-
A detailed receipt will be provided after each visit for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Our Commitment
These guidelines help us:
-
Maintain a smooth clinic flow
-
Reduce billing errors
-
Respect practitioner and staff time
-
Provide consistent, high-quality care
If you have any questions about insurance coverage, receipts, or billing procedures, our front desk team is always happy to assist.
